Kenny Frankland has been interested in producing animation on a computer since the days of the Commodore 64. After leaving school he attended college in Salford...around this time moving onto Deluxe Paint on a Amiga 500, which he says seemed like a gift from the gods at the time..then later an Amiga 1200 with 2mb of ram!

After completing his course in Salford he went on to study Film and Animation at University of Wales College, Newport, where he had his first experience of 3D Studio 3 on DOS....and was instantly hooked. All his film and animation work from this point involved CG in some form...which he reports resulted in some problems from one of his tutors who said there wasn't a future in computer animation! He later graduated with a higher second (2.1) honours degree, and two of his live action films, with CG effects were shown at festivals around Manchester.

After university he got a job at a multimedia company where he produced animations and interfaces on 3DS MAX 2 and on Alias Wavefront's Power Animator – but these were quite corporate and dull, and his creative juices needed more, so he started work on some personal projects with some friends, making children's word games in a robots' factory. This was the birth of Canny (more about him in the book and on Kenny's website). The word game project soon fell apart, and he started experimenting recording friends in natural situations, then animating robot versions to the dialogue recorded. The result was A Bot's Bad Day. He then wrote a script, and started animating it whenever he had spare time. This slowed down, however, when he started work in a Games company producing FMV sequences, and he is now in the process of seeking a grant to allow him to finish A Bot's Bad Day.
